News:Posted 25th October 2011 - The 2011 Wantage beer festival will take place at Wantage Civic Hall on the 11th and 12th November 2010. This is a new venue offering 28 real ales plus ciders and Perrys. For more details see the flyer Posted 6th May 2011 - On the 21st May, the Scots Guards will excercise the Freedom of Wantage. Starting in Newbury Street the Scots Guards will march to the Market Place. Celebrations will continue throughout the afternoon in the Manor Road Memorial Park. For more details see the flyer Posted 27th September 2010 - Congratulations to Peter Fowler & the Pitstop Brewery for winning 'beer of the festival' at the CAMRA Ascot Racecourse Beer Festival, 2010. This is the second year in succession that Peter has won this award. In 2009 he won with Pitstop's Sump ale and was invited to brew a special for this years festival. Peter took the challenge and produced a winning 7% ale and called it "Horsepower" Well done Peter. Posted 27th August 2010 - The Royal Oak will be presented with the Oxfordshire CAMRA pub of the year 2010 award on Sunday the 12th September at 2 pm. All are welcome to attend. Lunch time opening will be extended on this day from 12:00 - 17:00 in support of the Wantage Heritage trail Posted 6th July 2010 -For the third year in succession, The Royal Oak is Oxfordshire CAMRA pub of the year 2010.This covers the whole of Oxfordshire. Posted 28th May 2010 - Ollie, one of the youngest members of the Royal Oak darts team is the unbeaten house champion, winning all of his games in the house competition last night. Posted 19th April 2010 - As previously announced, The Royal Oak is runner-up in the National Pub of the Year Awards. The presentation of this award will take place at 8pm on Monday the 26th April. All are welcome to attend. Posted 3rd April 2010 - Peter Fowler's Pitstop brewery, has produced the worlds bitterest bitter. Peter has broken the record with his 8% beer 'The Hop' by achieving a record 323 International Bitter Units (IBUs) smashing the previous record of 200 IBUs which was held by an American beer, 'Devil Dance Triple IPA' Posted 2nd April 2010 - The Royal Oak Wantage, has been voted White Horse CAMRA pub of the year 2010. This is the forth year running that the Royal Oak has won this award. Posted 18th February 2010 - The Royal Oak Wantage are runners-up in the CAMRA National pub of the year competition 2009. Congratulations to Kelham Island in Sheffield, winners for the second consecutive year. Posted 28th Dec 2009 - The recent Royal Oak charity Ball raised a total of £1,350. £1,000 was presented to the British Red Cross and £350 to the Wantage Concords Posted 27th Dec 2009 - The winner of the toy otter in the charity raffle was Robin Oldham. £116 was raised for the FURGET-ME-NOT otter charity. Many thanks to all who purchased tickets. Posted: 8th Dec 2009 - The Royal Oak is holding a raffle in aid of the FURGET-ME-NOT otter charity which is fighting the battle in illegal fur trade. People generally think of tigers or leopards when illegal fur trading is mentioned but the trade in otter fur is huge. Otters are an endangered species and you can help by buying raffle tickets at the bar. Who knows, you may win the DARA the otter toy which retails at £50. The draw will take place during the week leading up to Christmas. Tickets are £1 a strip, please ask at the bar to buy a ticket or two. DARA is sat on the bar for viewing. Thank you for your support. Posted: 7th Dec 2009 - Well done to Frankie and her team of helpers in organising another fantastic charity ball which took place last Saturday the 28th November. Everyone had a wonderful fun filled evening and a substantial sum of money has been raised for charity. Thanks to all who attended for your generosity. The final figure is expected to be over £1,200 which will be split between Wantage Concords and the British Red Cross. Around 600 people visited over the two days enjoying a selection of 31 beers and a number of ciders. Thanks to Neil Crook, the festival organiser, and all who helped to make it a very successful event. Posted: 23rd Nov 2009 - Pitstop win again! Congratulations to Peter Fowler and the Pitstop Brewery for gaining first place at the Wantage Beer Festival. This time for their Star beer. The beer of the festival was voted by the visitors to the festival and although only 3.8%, it's clearly a winner Posted: 16th Nov 2009 - Congratulations to the Pitstop Brewery located at Grove, for winning 'beer of the festival' at the CAMRA Ascot Racecourse Beer Festival, 2009. Pitstop's Sump ale beat 163 other real ales to first place.
